Longest cable car in Europe to connect coast with Učka Mountain peak

14 February 2019 – The project of constructing Europe’s of longest cable car in Croatia has taken an important step with the signing of a contract this week.
The 4,700-long cable car route will connect Medveja to the Vojak mountain top on the Učka Mountain in northwestern Croatia behind the Opatija riviera.
This week a contract between the project holders Žičara Učka and engineering firm Dalekovod-projekt was signed.
The cable car is the second part of a bigger project with a visitor centre at the top of Učka mountain already completed. A marina at the departure station will follow once the cable car is complete.
“In addition to departure and incoming stations, the cable car includes five pillars (towers). The length of the route is ca. 4,700 meters with 1,310 meters of altitude difference and estimated time of 8.5 minutes. The cabin capacity is 60 passengers (310 passengers per hour).”
The cable car aims to increase the quality of tourist services in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and Istria County. It will also contribute to extending the tourist season and has the potential to be a world attraction.
Works are scheduled to begin in 2020 on the cable car project with the construction estimated to last 12 – 15 months. The project has been structured for a grant from the European Union.
