4th KinoKino International Film Festival For Children kicks off on 20 Feb

There are only two days left until 4th KinoKino International Film Festival For Children. The festival starts on Wednesday, 20 February with the premiere of Croatian sci-fi movie My Grandpa is an Alien at Cinema Europa and lasts until Sunday, 24 February.

Zagreb’s favourite cinema will for five days become a place of great fun, but also a place to learn.

The competition of this year’s Competition Program is stronger than ever. Out of eight contemporary films for children from all around the world, films in the program are My Extraordinary Summer With Tess, winner of the Special Mention of the Generation Plus International Jury at Berlinale, Supa Modo, recently won Best European Children’s Film at the European Children’s Film Association, and, The Witch Hunters, the best regional film for children in the last few years, winner of many festival awards, including the one for the best movie at TIFF Kids in Toronto. Director Steven Wouterlood is coming to Zagreb on the Croatian premiere of Tess straight from Berlin, and numerous cast led by Rasko Miljkovic will be at the Croatian premiere of The Witch Hunters. 

In the program Classics with Guests Petar and Vesna Krelja have chosen unforgettable movie by Kreso Golik from 1968, I Have Two Moms and Two Dads, frivolous drama about serious topic that will give us a rare opportunity to watch legendary performances by Mia Oremovic and Relja Basic on the big screen. Matija Dedic chose a classic that was his favourite movie from childhood, The Secret of an Old Attic directed by Vladimir Tadej. The original score was composed by his father, famous singer and song-writer, Arsen Dedic. 

Side Program offers great selection of short movies in the Discovering Every Day program and, very popular among parents, First Time at the Cinema – block of short movies for preschool children who are meeting with the moving pictures on the big screen for the first time. This year actors Filip Ridicki and Sara Stanic will help our youngest by live reading the dialogues from the movies.

Side Program is richer for a new edition named Extended Stay in which awarded short movie Cherries by Dubravka Turic will be screened. Extended Stay is designed to complement the workshop From Cinema to Classroom: a workshop of teaching about short film, intended for teachers, educators, librarians and other employees in the teaching sector, but the screening is open to the public.  This exceptional title amazingly works as a prelude to the promotion of tolerance and serves as an example of a successful marriage between literature and film. The screening will be accompanied by a discussion between director Dubravka Turić and writer and this year’s KinoKino jury member Olja Savičević Ivančević, who wrote the short story the film is based on.

Part of the program will, for the first time, visit other cities in Croatia, for starters Rijeka (Art-kino Croatia) and Dubrovnik (Cinema Sloboda).
