28 February 2019 – It is that time of year for lovers of oysters and good wine as the 2019 Festival of Oysters is set to place again in the ‘home of oysters’ in Croatia – Mali Ston.
Mali Ston, located on the Pelješac peninsula in southern Croatia, is famous for its world-class oyster production and on 16 March 2019, the town will celebrate with the popular festival which also marks the feast of Saint Joseph.
The tasting of oysters and wines from Pelješac will take place on the seafront in Mali Ston on 16 March 2019 starting at 11 am.
As well as sampling the Mali Ston oysters, visitors will have a chance to try muscles and other shellfish at the festival together with some top quality wines from the Pelješac region.
A full entertainment programme, including folklore performances and Dalmatian music, is again planned for the day and evening, as well as a presentation of Croatian island products and raffles.
Ston Oysters farmed in the Bay of Mali Ston were awarded the Grand Prix and Gold Medal at the General Trades International Exhibition in London in 1936.
If you are a first time visitor to the festival there are other attractions in Ston, notably the Walls of Ston, which are the second longest preserved fortification system in the world after the Great Wall of China.
