Hundreds Camp Overnight On Streets For Croatia-Serbia Tickets

Light snow and bitter cold temperatures did not deter hundreds of passionate Croatian football supporters from setting up camp on the streets 10-hours before tickets went on sale for the World Cup qualifying match Croatia – Serbia (22 March, 18:00) at outlets around the capital Zagreb on Thursday morning.

Only 24,000 tickets were released for public sale for the 35,000 capacity Maksimir stadium, with the rest set aside for the Serbian official delegation, players families and sponsors. The Croatian football federation (HNS) has warned that there will be some disappointed fans.

“Never has the HNS been so thoroughly prepared. It is clear that a lot of people’s appetites will not be met, which is not feasible since we received 60,000 requests for tickets online.” said secretary Damir Vrbanovic, adding that a lot of fans have called to congratulate the federation on the affordable ticket prices. Tickets range from 7 euros to 35 euros. Away fans have been banned for both legs of the Croatia-Serbia qualifiers.
