Croat named to lead entire design team for BMW brand

1 April 2019 – BMW has named Domagoj Dukec as the new head of design, the company announced in a statement. 

Dukec, who was the former BMW i and M Head of Design, will now lead the entire design team for the BMW brand. 

Dukec was born to Croatian parents in Frankfurt in 1975. His father’s roots are from Koprivnica and the island of Hvar, whilst his mother is from Šenkovec near Čakovec. 

Dukec has worked in the Design BMW Automobiles team since 2010 and was responsible for designing the Concept Active Tourer and Concept Vision ConnectedDrive.

The 1989 Pforzheim graduate previously worked for Volkswagen and Citroën and was part of the design team responsible for the Citroën C4 coupé, C5 Airscape, C5 (Mark II), Hypnos and GQ Concept. At the age of 13, Dukec already knew what career he would be getting into. His father would regularly take him to Pforzheim, where he presented his sketches to the university’s School of Design. 

“The realignment of BMW Group Design is a signal of our future orientation. The new structure will ensure more efficiency, speed and agility in our design process. The new responsibilities will set the design direction for the individual brands and align it to future demands,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design, on Friday in Munich, BMW Blog reported.
