Foreign Drivers Owe Half A Million Euros In Parking Fines In Zagreb

The Croatian capital’s local parking body Zagrebparking was out-of-pocket to the tune of 4.3 million kuna (566,000 euros) in 2012 because foreign drivers have not been paying their fines, says Vecernji list.

“Those are car owners we do not know the identity of. They use the situation to their advantage because they have vehicles with foreign plates and we can not tow them away, said Zagrebparking’s Robert Miseta who says they have had enough and want the situation sorted by getting a law change to enable them to tow vehicles with foreign plates.

Those foreigners who currently manipulate loopholes in the system and not pay their parking fines will not be able to get away with it in the near future.On 1 July when Croatia enters the EU a law change will mean fines can be sent to the home address of foreign parking infringers.
