Croatians in New York celebrate on Saturday night
NEW YORK, 2 June 2019 – New York’s Croatian community has celebrated Statehood Day at the Croatian Parish Hall, St. Cyril and Methodius and St. Raphael Catholic Church on Saturday night.
The evening, which included traditional folklore and vocal performances, has been a tradition among New York Croatians.
Once again there was a good turnout of people and a festive atmosphere on the night and they were entertained by a number of cultural and musical performances.
The were impressive Croatian folklore dance performances from kolo groups Grupa Kardinal Stepinac and Hrvatska Ruža, whilst Ella Mische recited famous Croatian poet Ivan Gundulić’s Himna Slobodi.
Music on the night was provided by Klapa Astoria, Damir Radov, Stanko and Johnny Škibola. Boris Vilic gave a speech about Croatia over the years and successful Croatians around the world.
Brother Nikola blessed the dinner and Lidija Babić, the acting Croatian consulate in New York, welcomed guests and thanked the organisers Johny Škibola, Ane Mljećka, Ivica Dubić and Ana Glavan. Once again, all funds raised on the night went to charity.
