ZAGREB, 30 July 2019 – Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb have gone a step closer to playing in the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League after beating FC Saburtalo in the second qualifying round 5:0 on aggregate after a 3-0 win at Maksimir stadium in Zagreb tonight.
Dinamo took a two goal lead into the second leg after Mislav Orsic and Croatian international Bruno Petkovic gave Dinamo victory at the Mikheil Meskhi stadium in Georgia last week, and tonight they beat their opponents by the same scoreline.
Just like it was in the first leg last week, it would be FC Saburtalo who would start the more aggressive but they could not fashion any real chances early on. When the match settled down it would be Dinamo who would start to dominate and in the 19th minute they had the chance to take the lead when Hajrovic had a shot saved.
Four minutes later the Croatian champions came close again through Hajrovic but this time his effort would just go over the bar.
FC Saburtalo had some half chances near the end of the first half but Dianmo’s keeper Dominik Livakovic comfortably dealt with what was thrown his way.
Dinamo had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 53rd minute when defender Leskovic found himself free in the box following a corner but his attempt at a shot would go wide with the goal in front of him.
In the 77th minute, Dinamo finally found a way through when Orsic’s shot found the bottom left corner of the net. Petkovic made it 2-0 on the night in the 88th minute before substitute Dani Olmo made it 3.0 and 5-0 on aggregate.
Dinamo will face Ferencvaros from Hungary in the third qualifying round with matches being played on 6/7 August and 13 August.
