The Croatian-Irish Cultural Society, together with the Embassy of Ireland in Croatia, are busy preparing for a festival of Irish culture in the Croatian capital Zagreb ahead of Ireland’s most recognised cultural and religious feast day, Saint Patrick’s Day which is celebrated on 17 March.
For the past eight years organised festivities, including promotion of irish music, culture and food, have taken place in Zagreb, and this year organisers promise one of the most entertaining programmes to date.
Saint Patrick’s Day festivities kick off on Tuesday 12 March and run through till 17 March with performances from irish dancers, bands and an introduction to irish food and culture in the centre of Zagreb. On Friday at the Automobile Museum there will be a display of oldtimer cars, an exhibition of photographs from Ireland and a performance from the dance troupe Celtic Fantasy.
On Saturday the oldtimers will be decorated in green and they will make their way in procession around the centre of Zagreb. The evening entertainment includes bands such as the Thin Lizzy Tribute band, Paddys, Ciotog, Irish Maiden and headliners, direct from Dublin – The Bogus Pogues.
