Best pršut awards held at international festival in Drniš

DRNIŠ, 24 August 2019 – The 6th International Pršut Festival has opened in Drniš on Friday with the best pršut awards being held.
This year some of the best pršut producers from Croatia are exhibiting their products at the festival which ends on Saturday. Along with pršut, visitors are able to try some of the best cheeses, wines, pancetta, bread from under the bell, honey, soparnik and lots more.
On Friday, the festival was opened by Drniš mayor, Josip Begonja, president of the Drniš pršut association, Drago Pletikosa, and prefect Goran Pauk.
21 pršut producers competed in two categories – smoked and certified pršut – in the competition on the opening day. The overall champion this year was Smjeli from Dugopolje.
In the smoked pršut category, there were two bronze, four silver and seven gold medals awarded. In the certified Drniš, Dalmatian, Istrian and Krk pršut category, the quality was evident. Mujkić prom, Drniške delicije Maran and MI Braća Pivac won silver medals, whilst Montenegro pršut Cluster, Drniš pršut producers DIM – MES & BEL CRO, and Žužić butchers with their Krk pršut won silver medals.
Gold medal and title of festival champion went to Dalmatian pršut producers Smjeli d.o.o. from Dugopolja.
After the awards, visitors had the chance to try the different pršuts at the stands as well as other local products.
Visitors at the festival are being entertained by local group Klapa Drniš, as well as klapa groups Kampanel and Iskon and Neum City Choir, Tambura orchestra Krsto Odak, City Wind Orchestra Drniš, KUU Miljevci and local pop/rock/jazz band The Smoked Ham.
