Dinamo Zagreb beats Atalanta in youth Champions League opener

ZAGREB, 18 September 2019 – Dinamo Zagreb’s U-19 side had made a winning start to their UEFA Youth League campaign on Wednesday.
Dinamo Zagreb beat Italian youth champions Atalanta 1-0 in Zagreb in their Group C opener this afternoon. The Croatian club took the lead in the 49th minute when winger Bernard Karrica finished well past the Atalanta keeper after he was put through in the box.
Dinamo were reduced to 10-men when captain Bartol Franjić was given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card for a foul but managed to hold on for the victory.
The UEFA Youth League is contested by the youth (under-19) teams of the clubs competing in the UEFA Champions League group stage, plus the domestic youth champions of the best-ranked national associations.
Dinamo Zagreb’s group also consists of Manchester City and Shakhtar, the same teams as the senior team will play in their Champions League group.
Last season Dinamo Zagreb U-19s reached the quarterfinals, beating Viitorul, Astana and Lokomotiv Moscow before losing to Chelsea on penalties.
