Croatian kickboxer Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipovic has won the first ever K-1 World Grand Prix to be outside of Japan when he beat Surinamese-Dutchman Ismael Londt on points to be crowned the new K-1 kickboxing champion in front of his home crowd in Zagreb.
A packed house at the Arena were right behind the 38-year-old veteran as he was unbeatable on the night, winning all three of his fights.
“This has fulfilled my childhood dream. This is the biggest moment of my career. Thanks everyone, I have never felt better than here with you at the Arena,” said Mirko to the 15,000 fans who turned up to support the Croat.
The win netted Cro Cop a cool 800,000 USD.
