After meeting with European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy John Dalli, Croatia’s Deputy Minister for Home and Foreign Affairs Neven Mimica announced on Tuesday that the ban has been lifted on exporting live pigs, pork and a variety of cured meat products such as prsut (prosciutto) from Croatia, writes daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija.
The decision to lift the ban was met with joy from meat producers around the country.”The lift of the ban of cured meats is very welcome, we now see an opportunity with our Dalmatian prsut (prosciutto) brand. I expect that we can return to the markets in Slovenia, a market that before the EU ban had a habit of going through a lot of Dalmatian prsut,” said Ivica Pivac from Vrgorac’s “Brothers Pivac”, Croatia’s largest Dalmatian prsut producers.
