Croatia will be one of the hosts of the 2021 edition of EuroVolley Women, the CEV Board of Administration confirmed on Friday.
Croatia joins Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia as hosts of the continental showpiece event for national women’s volleyball teams. Croatia last hosted the tournament in 2005.
24 teams will take part in EuroVolley in 2021 with Croatia to host one of the four preliminary pools.
“EuroVolley 2019 was a tremendous success and helped us initiate a real revolution in European volleyball,” says CEV President Aleksandar Boričić. “With the help of the eight countries due to co-host the 2021 edition, we want to improve the event experience even further and we look forward to working with our Croatian friends to raise the profile of our premier event even higher.”
“It is a true honour for us to join forces with our friends from Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania in the organisation of EuroVolley 2021 Women,” commented the President of the Croatian Volleyball Association, Mr Ante Baković. “Croatia as a nation lives volleyball with much passion and enthusiasm. The organisation of this event will help us grow the game even further and inspire the next generation of Croatian volleyball players as well.”
Croatia has enjoyed success in women’s volleyball over the years with the national team securing three EuroVolley silver medals in a row between 1995 and 1999. Earlier this year, Croatia fell short at EuroVolley 2019 in Ankara, narrowly going down to hosts and eventual silver medallists Turkey.
