ZAGREB, 4 January 2020 – Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova has won the 2020 Audi FIS World Ski Cup ‘Snow Queen Trophy’ in the Croatian capital Zagreb on Saturday with a time of 1’57″98.
More than 5,000 fans turned out on Sljeme to watch Vlhova claim victory over American two-time Olympic gold medalist and four-time Snow Queen winner Mikaela Shiffrin.
Vlhova, who finished second last year, opened the slalom on the Crveni Spust course with a fantastic run to hold a 1.16 second lead at the end of the first run over Shiffrin.
A great second run saw her extend the lead to become just the second Slovakian to be crowned Snow Queen in Zagreb.
Shiffrin finished second (+1.31 secs), whilst Austrian Katharina Liensberger (+3.49 secs) finished third.
This year’s “Snow Queen Trophy” slalom also featured two Croatian representatives, Leona Popovic and Ida Stimac. Leona successfully completed her first run, placing 31st after coming four seconds and 6/100ths of a second behind the Slovak; however, that was not fast enough for Leona to qualify for the second run. Stimac, meanwhile, failed to complete the first run.
