PHOTOS: Giant playable violin erected in Varazdin

VARAZDIN, 13 January 2020 – A new playable violin sculpture named “Music” has been erected on Kapucinski Square in the centre of the Croatian city of Varazdin.  

The sculpture is the work of Nikola Vudrag, a local visual artist who had his first solo exhibition last year at the prestigious Galerie Carre d’artistes in Paris and was co-author of the 12-metre replica of Our Lady of Loreto in Primosten.  

The violin sculpture in the ‘city of Baroque music’, and location of the annual Varazdin Baroque Evenings, is over 3.5 metres tall and weighs 800 kilograms.

The violin is made of weathering steel (corten), and is special in that passers-by are able to play it.

“I’m pleased with how the sculpture fits into the space. I’m just waiting for the square to get a little more greenery, so it’ll look even better,“ Vudrag said.

The sculpture is a symbol representing the city’s connection with Baroque music and its tradition with music and music schools.
