PHOTOS: Peljesac Bridge progressing at speed

20 January 2020 – The new Peljesac Bridge in southern Croatia is moving ahead quickly with more than a third of the construction complete, daily Vecernji list reported on Monday.

There are currently 629 workers at the Peljesac Bridge construction site, of which 132 are technical and support staff, and the rest are machinists and sailors on board ships. As for machinery and equipment, there are, among other things, three tower and portal cranes and three concrete cranes.

Currently, 21 vessels are being used for the construction of the bridge, namely navigable cranes, barges for the carriage of structural members, ferries, tugboats and clappers, and personnel ships.

The bridge will connect the peninsula of Peljesac, and through it the southernmost part of Croatia including Dubrovnik, with the Croatian mainland.

The first contingent of segments of the steel span structure of the bridge will be shipped from two plants in China to Croatia later this week. Croatian Roads says they have received confirmation from contractors China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) that the first 29 segments of the span structure will head towards the bridge site on 25 January and is expected to be delivered in the second half of February.

The value of the construction of the Peljesac Bridge and access roads is estimated at HRK 2.08 billion. The bridge is due to be completed by the end of July 2021 and will stretch 2.4 km from the southern peninsula of Peljesac to the mainland spanning across the bay in the Adriatic shared by Croatia and Bosnia.
