Zagreb hospital becomes licensed centre for stroke treatment

ZAGREB, Feb 12 (Hina) – The KBC Zagreb University Hospital Centre is the first European medical centre to have been granted a license for stroke treatment in this part of Europe and the certificate guarantees that patients will receive excellent therapy and diagnostics at KBC Zagreb.
The official certificate, issued by the European Stroke Organisation, recognises the work, organisation and success of stroke treatment at KBC Zagreb, a press conference heard on Tuesday.
The head of KBC Zagreb’s department for neurointensive care and cerebrovascular diseases, Dr. Zdravka Poljakovic, said that doctors at KBC Zagreb treat all types of stroke with all procedures available in line with European and global guidelines.
Between 10,000 and 12,000 cases of stroke reported in Croatia annually
In Croatia there are between 10,000 and 12,000 cases of stroke each year. The greatest number of patients (8,000 to 10,000) experience a stroke due to blocked arteries while other patients experience a brain hemorrhage.
“The European certificate confirms that we work well and that our patients receive all the necessary care within a few hours – dissolving or mechanically removing blood clots as well as bypassing damaged blood vessels,” Poljakovic said.
