ZAGREB, March 19 (Hina) – The Croatian Bishops’ Conference (HBK) on Thursday decided to dispense the obligation to attend masses effective immediately and suspended gatherings of believers because of health concerns related to the coronavirus epidemic.
The HBK says on its website that the suspension of masses for worshippers is in line with the instructions given by the country’s authorities in a bid to fight against the spread of the infection.
These decisions are made for the sake of the health of worshppers and other citizens, the bishops said.
Churches and chapels will remain open for individual healthy believers to say prayers and contemplate when they feel the need.
Funeral rites will be conducted in compliance with strict rules imposed during the crisis.
Religious lessons for school-age children can be made available online, according to some of the instructions released by the leadership of the Catholic Church in the country.
