Commuter transport services in Croatia suspended

ZAGREB, March 21 (Hina) – Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic, who heads the COVID-19 crisis management team, said on Saturday that all commuter transport services and long-distance transport by train and bus would be suspended and public community areas would be closed due to the coronavirus infection.

Railway and bus stations will be closed.

As for public community areas, Bozinovic said that they could not be literally shut down but that gatherings in such areas would be banned.

Police officers will be patrolling such sites and punish anyone who disobeys the rules, the minister said.

“Our lives are going to change more and more. More and more things will be taking place indoors,” the minister said.

“Stay at home,” he appealed.

In line with the ban on public gatherings, the Croatian Bishops Conference (HBK) on Thursday issued temporary measures whereby all religious services including sacraments, parish celebrations and other events bringing together worshippers are cancelled until further notice both indoors and outdoors. Therefore, masses will be broadcast by the national HRT broadcaster and some local TV and radio stations.
