Croatian Supermarket Prices One Year On

Wages might not have gone up in the last year in Croatia, but it has not stopped supermarkets from putting up their prices, and in some cases a hike of over 50%. Portal Supermarketi.info has released data showing price differentials from March 2012 to March 2013 and out of 60 articles researched, only 9 had not gone up in price in the last year.

3. Apples (Idared) – up 54%
4. Eggs – up 36%
5. Flour – up 25%
6. Kids shampoo – up 17%
7. Chocolate – up 12%
8. Instant coffee – up 12%
9. Yoghurt – up 10%
10. Beer – up 9%
Cheaper
1. Dishwashing liquid – down 10%
2. Butter (Dukat brand) – down 8%
3. Bananas – down 7%
4. Coca Cola – down 4.22%
5. Marmalade – down 3.78%
Zagreb’s cheapest supermarket was Plodine, followed by Getro, Kaufland and Billa. Croatia’s largest supermarket chain Konzum was in 5th place, followed by Mercator and Interspar.
