LATEST: Croatia reports 48 new COVID-19 infections, 1,011 in total

ZAGREB, April 2 (Hina) – Forty-eight new COVID-19 infections have been confirmed in Croatia in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,011, and seven persons have died to date, the national civil protection authority said on Thursday.

To date, 8,352 samples have been tested, including 672 since yesterday, Health Minister Vili Beros told a press conference.

He said the seventh fatality was a man born in 1930 who had a number of chronic conditions. He died in Zagreb’s Dubrava hospital on Wednesday.

88 persons have recovered to date

Thirty-five COVID-19 patients are on ventilators, one more than on Wednesday, while 88 persons have recovered to date, 15 more than yesterday.

Beros said the current situation was good because citizens were complying with the recommendations of the national civil protection authority. “There is room for optimism, but not for relaxing.”

Beros said he was displeased to hear from his colleagues in Zadar, Split and Sibenik that young people there continued to gather in cafes with tinted windows, drinking and having fun.

“That’s not acceptable behaviour. They are endangering themselves, their families and the nation’s health. I’d urge everyone to be patient and wait for this epidemic to end. There will be time for hanging out and relaxing. Until then we must be disciplined and extremely cautious,” the minister said.
