American Airlines cancels service to Dubrovnik for all of 2020

ZAGREB, 5 April 2020 – American Airlines has cancelled its summer service to the Croatian city of Dubrovnik for 2020 and will resume next year, the airline announced. 

American Airlines announced cuts its international summer schedule by 60% to match a sharp drop in demand due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

American Airlines’ summer service between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik, which was to run between June and October on a daily basis, has been suspended for the entire summer season and will resume in 2021. 

“Nobody is booking travel,” Vasu Raja, American’s Senior Vice President for Network Strategy said. “If we can reduce our capacity this summer, we can reduce our expenses”, he added. In total, American Airlines is suspending 25 summer seasonal flights until 2021. It will focus on services into London Heathrow and Madrid, where passengers can connect to flights on its partners British Airways and Iberia, respectively, EX-YU Aviation writes.

American Airlines launched the first direct flight connecting the United States and Croatia in 28 years back in June of 2019. Three weekly flights operated between the two cities during the summer with an additional flight added in September.

American Airlines handled 17,782 passengers during its four-month service run, with an average cabin load factor of 83%.
