Croatia records 9 new cases in last 24 hours, easing lockdown starts

ZAGREB, April 27 – There have been 9 new COVID-19 cases reported in Croatia in the last 24 hours, the national crisis management team said at Monday’s press conference.

Today’s new cases bring the total tally of cases to 2,039. Since late February, Croatia has conducted 32,811 tests, including 1195 in the last 24 hours, and the percentage of positive cases is 6.23%.

There have been four more COVID-19-related fatalities in the last 24 hours. The latest victims were patients born in 1937 (Koprivinca), 1934 (Zagreb) 1924 and 1931 (Split). All patients had chronic underlying health conditions. Currently, the death toll stands at 59.

The latest data shows that 303 patients are being treated in hospitals. The number of patients on ventilators is 21. There have been 1166 recoveries to date, 63 more than yesterday.

A total of 13,724 people are in self-isolation.

The first phase of easing lockdown measures which started today 

  1. All business entities engaged in trade activity are allowed to work, except those operating within shopping centres.
  2. It is possible for all business entities engaged in service activities, except for those in which there is close contact with clients, to commence working but they must respect the measures of physical distancing (eg carpenters, tailors, key cutters, travel agencies, photo studios…)
  3. City and suburban public transport lines and high-speed catamaran lines for islands not connected by ferries will commence again.
  4. Libraries, museums, galleries, antiques, and bookstores can open.
  5. Training for first and second category athletes (according to Croatian Olympic Committee) can commence in individual sports and senior sports teams performing in the highest level of competition.
  6. It is possible to conduct state exams for priority groups of students.
