Croatia reports 8 new cases on Tuesday

ZAGREB, April 28  – There have been 8 new COVID-19 cases reported in Croatia in the last 24 hours, the national crisis management team said at Tuesday’s press conference.

Today’s new cases bring the total tally of cases to 2,047. Since late February, Croatia has conducted 33,577 tests, including 766 in the last 24 hours, and the percentage of positive cases is 6.10%.

There have been four more COVID-19-related fatalities in the last 24 hours. The latest victims were patients born in 1939 and 1926 in Koprivinca, and in 1940 and 1961 in Split. All patients had chronic underlying health conditions. Currently, the death toll stands at 63.

The number of patients on ventilators is 21. There have been 1232 recoveries to date, 66 more than yesterday. The latest data shows that 287 patients are being treated in hospitals, 16 fewer than yesterday.

A total of 13,839 people are in self-isolation.

“There are just 8 new cases today. Our current situation is good which gives us credit and room to move with the relaxation of measures,” said Krunoslav Capak, head of the Croatian Public Health Institute. 

Health Minister Vili Beros said that the descending epidemic curve must not mean a drop in caution and warned that care still needed to be taken. 

More PPE arrives in Croatia

An additional 76 tonnes of medical equipment arrived in Zagreb on Monday from Shanghai. This is the 6th shipment of PPE gear to arrive since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Croatian government said the latest shipment included disinfectants, safety glasses, overshoes, and a large number of protective masks.
