UFC: Stipe Miocic confirms fight against Daniel Cormier will happen

7 May 2020 – American-Croatian UFC champ Stipe Miocic says he will fight Daniel ‘DC’ Cormier for the third time.
Miocic won his UFC heavyweight belt back after a 4th round TKO against Daniel Cormier at UFC 241 last August, took to Twitter on Wednesday to let his fans know that he will be back in the ring shortly.
“I want to fight DC. It’s going to happen period. I’m going to give my fans what they want to see. My management has been working on dates with UFC. Right now I’m doing what the Governor DeWine is advising and am working as a first responder. I can’t control a global pandemic, the part-time firefighter wrote, before adding.
“My head coach can’t open his gym by law right now. I don’t hold myself higher than any other person in regards to what I’m allowed to do. Ohio is under orders until May 29th. The second the gym can open, we begin camp. Plain and simple. I have never ducked anyone. I’ve never turned down a fight, and I never will. Strap #6 coming soon.”
UFC boss Dana White confirmed late last year that they were working on making a trilogy happen but needed to wait to the American-Croatian recovered from an eye injury before a date could be set.

37-year-old Miocic has the most consecutive title defences in UFC heavyweight history after defending his belt three times against Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos, and Francis Ngannou.
The fight will likely be Cormier’s last ever fight in the UFC.
