New York-based Croatian designer a finalist in Independent Handbag Design Awards

NEW YORK, NY, May 17, 2020 – New York-based Croatian Marija Curic is a finalist in the Fourteenth Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards™.
Handbag Designer 101 announced the finalists for the Fourteenth Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards™ to be held digitally for the first time ever live-streamed on all social media platforms, on Wednesday, June 10th.
Forty finalists have been selected from 1000 submissions sent from 5 continents and 28 countries. The brainchild of handbag designer turned curator, Emily Blumenthal, The Handbag Awards has created a global discovery platform for unknown designers and brand-launching prizes and opportunities, since 2007.
Marija Curic, Co-founder of Curic&Curic is one of the finalists in a category for the Best Green Handbag sponsored by The K. Carroll Accessories. Marija is originally from Croatia but now resides in Hoboken, NJ.
“My bag is made out of repurposed denim (cotton). These pieces were meant to be garbage and waste. I have picked three different denim washes that used to be jeans. I had to cut many strips out of each wash that were braided separately and sewn together. The whole bag was made by hand and no machine and electricity were used. I have used cardboard-base lining to achieve shape firmness and a minimum of eco-friendly glue.”
