Six new cases in Croatia on Friday, first results from serology-based testing in

ZAGREB, May 22, 2020 (CW/Hina) – There have been six new COVID-19 cases reported in Croatia in the last 24 hours, the national crisis management team said at a press conference on Friday.

Today’s new cases bring the total tally of cases to 2,243. The new cases were reported in the Brod-Posavina (4), Osijek-Baranja (1) and Split-Dalmatia (1) counties. The new case in Split-Dalmatia County was on the island of Hvar. 

There were two COVID-19-related fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.  The current death toll stands at 99.

There have been 2,011 recoveries to date. This means there are currently 133 active COVID-19 cases in Croatia.

There are 102 in hospital as of Tuesday, 15 fewer than yesterday with 5 patients currently on a ventilator.

Since late February, Croatia has conducted 59,911 tests, including 1820 in the last 24 hours.

Coronavirus antibody testing

The Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) has started conducting coronavirus antibody tests, and the first 100 samples analysed until Thursday evening showed that only two of them were positive.

Antibody detection tests for COVID-19 (ELISA) are being used in this serology testing that will cover 1,100 Croatians.

The HZJZ head Krunoslav Capak told the national broadcaster HRT on Thursday evening that the first 100 persons tested for this purpose were from a wider Zagreb area.

The HZJZ is going to collect and analyse blood samples from as many as 1,100 people from all parts of the country and the results of this serosurvey will be known in two weeks’ time.
