Zagreb Central Station building temporarily closed

ZAGREB, 24 May 2020 – Croatian Railways has reported that the building of Zagreb’s Central Station has been temporarily closed to passengers because a massive stone fence on its roof was damaged due to an earthquake that hit the city of Zagreb in March.

“Due to the safety of passengers, citizens and railway staff, access to the station building and the 1st platform was limited immediately after the earthquake, and the movement of passengers and railway staff in the station area is currently on the west side of the station, Croatian Railways said in a statement, HRT reported.

Croatian Railways explains that the Central Station building is temporarily closed to passengers because a big stone fence on its roof was damaged due to the earthquake that hit Zagreb on March 22.

The damage was reported to the City Institute for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Monuments of the City of Zagreb, and Croatian Railways says that they are taking all necessary activities for its safe removal.

The statement reminds that passenger rail transport in Croatia, in accordance with the decision of the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Republic of Croatia, was suspended on March 22, and re-established on May 11, and has been running regularly ever since.
