Croatian Authors At The London Book Fair

Some of Croatia’s best contemporary authors will exhibit at the annual London Book Fair in the UK from 15-17 April, the first time a Croatian stand will be present at the famous book fair.

On Tuesday 16 April visitors will have a chance to meet three top class Croatian writers, Dasa Drndic, Josip Novakovich and Marinko Kosce, as they present their works at Keats House Library. On Wednesday the Croatian Embassy in London will host a two-part discussion on today’s Croatian literary scene, and the efforts to bring Croatian literature to a wider audience through translation.

The event, held at Europe House on Smith Square, will be chaired by Man Booker International nominee, Josip Novakovich, and Literary Editor, Roman Simic-Bodrozic.

More than 25,000 publishers, booksellers, literary agents, librarians, media and industry suppliers from over 100 countries now attend The London Book Fair.Book publishers come to London to publicize their upcoming titles and to sell and purchase subsidiary and translation rights for books from other publishers.

UK based boutique publishing house Istros Books, who focus on literature from South-East Europe,will be leading the organization and running the Croatian London Book Fair stand, which is hosted by the Croatian Writers Society and the Croatian Ministry of Culture. Guests this year will also include Robert Perisic ( ‘Our Man Iraq’ Istros Books, 2012; Black Balloon Publishing US, 2013), Marinko Koscec (‘A Handful of Sand’, Istros Books 2013), Matko Srsen (Odohohol & Cally Rascal, Istros Books 2013), Olja Savicevic (Farewell Cowboy, Istros Books 2014), Roman Simic-Bodrozic (Director of the Festival of the European Short Story), Boris Gunjevic (‘God in Pain: Inversions of the Apocalypse’, with Slavoj Zizek, Seven Stories Press 2012) and Ivan Srsen (Sandorf Publishing) along with well-known translators, Will Firth and Celia Hawkesworth.
