Boston Wine School making Croatia’s Pošip famous across the US

Boston, July 17, 2020 — A workweek is almost over and Jonathon Alsop, the founder of the Boston Wine School opens a bottle of Pošip. And, so do many of his students. Instead of being in one of the school locations in the Boston area, the campus is on Zoom. It is 2020 after all.

Jonathon “discovered” Croatian wines a year ago when he attended the Boston launch of Croatian Premium Wine. As a frequent commentator on the PBS radio station WGBH in Boston, he immediately started talking about Croatia as his new favorite winemaking area.

When asked why, Jonathon said “Croatia has a long history of winemaking, but we haven’t been part of that. Now we have some geography to learn, and new grape names to pronounce and new wines to enjoy that we have not known before, which makes it exciting.”

“The white wine from the Dalmatian coast is an indigenous wine called Pošip. It is pronounced as in “pause + sip” said very fast. It is a light and zippy wine, which pairs really well with seafood,” said Alsop.

Next Class:  Plavac Mali, July 30th

Of course, Alsop will be teaching about other Croatian wines, including Plavac Mali, Malvasia, and more.  He added “in the next class I am looking forward to introducing Plavac Mali beyond Boston, as the class will also be on Zoom. This is a signature red for Croatia and we will talk about its origin, and different ways of winemaking, from a rosé version to a softer red, medium-bodied version and ultimately the robust powerful ones, but also how to find the style each person likes the most.”

To sign up for the classes go to visit the Boston Wine School website, and you will receive information on what specific wine labels will be tasted. If you would like to taste along, you can order the same wines at www.CroatianpremiumWine.com/shop-online for home delivery to your state.
