Croatia reports 180 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours

ZAGREB, Aug 13 (Hina) – In the last 24 hours 180 new cases of the coronavirus disease have been reported in Croatia, the number of active cases stands at 811 and one person has died, the national COVID-19 response team said on Thursday.

This is a record-high number of new cases in a single day since the outbreak of the epidemic.

Of the active cases, 115 are undergoing hospital treatment, including 10 who are on ventilators.

Since February 25, when the first case of the infection was detected in the country, 6,050 people have contracted the disease, 161 of them have died and 5,078 have recovered.

Currently, 2,752 people are in self-isolation. To date, 133,493 people have been tested for the virus, including 1,201 in the last 24 hours.

The most active cases are in the capital Zagreb where there are 205. The Split-Dalmatia County was next with 187. 

Italy makes COVID-19 testing obligatory for travellers from Croatia

The obligation to get tested for COVID-19 upon arrival from Croatia in Italy is in place, and travellers are supposed to have either negative tests when entering that country or to take a test immediately upon entry, Croatia’s government said on Thursday.

Travellers coming to Italy from Croatia are required to have a negative test for COVID taken no earlier than 72 hours before their arrival or they are supposed to will need to be tested within 48 hours upon their arrival in that country, the Croatian government said in an explanation of the Italian decision.

The decision applies to all passengers from Croatia, including Italians who are returning from Croatia to their homeland.

Passengers in transit are exempt from testing.
