RB Leipzig sign 18-year-old Croatian defender Joško Gvardiol

ZAGREB, 28 September 2020 – German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig have reached an agreement on the transfer of Croatian Joško Gvardiol.
The 18-year-old Dinamo Zagreb defender has passed a medical and signed a five-year deal on Monday. Gvardiol will join RB Leipzig on 1st July 2021, remaining at Dinamo for the rest of the current season.
“As a young player, it was important to come to a club that can help me take the next step in my career. That is exactly what RB Leipzig is all about. The club has shown several times how players can develop and improve here,” Joško said.
Sporting director Markus Krosche said. ”In Joško Gvardiol, we’ve signed one of the best defensive talents in Europe. At 18 years old, he’s still a young footballer, but is very mature both as a player and as a person.”

Gvardiol has played 13 times for Dinamo Zagreb after making his debut last year. He has represented Croatia at all age-group levels.
