Actor Armand Assante in Split Shooting Scenes for Ante Gotovina Film

American actor Armand Assante has been in the Dalmatian city of Split shooting scenes for the film about the life of retired Croatian General Ante Gotovina.
Assante, best known for his Emmy Award-winning role as mobster John Gotti in the miniseries Gotti, was in shooting scenes for the upcoming film ‘General’ at Vila Dalmacija in Split.
The 67-year-old, who starred in films such as The Odyssey, The Mambo Kings, Judge Dredd and American Gangster, plays the grandfather of Ante Gotovina’s first wife Ximena Dalel, who is being played by Jasmin Lord.
According to 100posto.hr, Assante’s part sees him being told the news by Gotovina, who is played by Goran Višnjić, in 1991 that he is going to return to Croatia to take part in defending his homeland.
Around two-thirds of the film have already been shot in locations such as Sveti Rok in the Lika-Senj County, Zadar, Imotski, Pirovac and Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the start of June, filming will head to the island of Pag to shoot scenes from Gotovina’s period in the Foreign Legion and also to France.
The film is directed by Antun Vrdoljak and also stars actors Boris Svrtan, Tarik Filipović, Rene Bitorajac, Goran Navojec and Nataša Janjić. It is expected to be released next year.
