ZAGREB, Oct 10 (Hina) – Croatia and the United States have significant room for promoting economic cooperation and a step towards that is the termination of double taxation, it was said on Wednesday at the presentation of the Zagreb office of the Association of Croatian American Professionals (ACAP).

The Association of Croatian American Professionals (ACAP), founded three years ago in the United States, is a member-driven non-profit organisation. ACAP members represent all facets of the international professional community, such as scientists, doctors, engineers, attorneys, artists, journalists, business executives, accountants, etc. The association also welcomes individuals of non-Croatian heritage who are active in the Croatian community.

The president of the newly appointed Zagreb Office, Don Markusic, said the office was a guarantee of even better connections and more information between Croatia and the United States and the entire diaspora, adding that the office was currently focused on terminating the double taxation system and projects in the health tourism sector.

Markusic said that apart from ACAP, also included in that process were the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Croatia and the Embassy of the United States.

US Ambassador to Croatia Robert Kohorst said one of his own objectives was signing an agreement on double taxation avoidance, saying this could happen in the next year or two.

Kohorst also sees room for additional US investments in Croatia.

The country is beautiful, it is a stable area in the region and with additional effort, including ACAP, we can bring more US companies here and strengthen our partnership.

Vice president of Eden Green Technology Gentry Beach said this was an excellent time for building ties between Croatia and the US and for enabling US investments.

Construction entrepreneur and owner of Blackard Global, Jedd Blackard, said the Pasman Riviera project would be discussed at the investment forum on health tourism in the Adriatic, scheduled to be held on Thursday. The Pasman Rivera project is estimated at EUR 400 million.

The event in Zagreb was also attended by former US congressman, senator and CNN political commentator Rick Santorum.
