Biggest Croatian Gathering in South America Takes Place in Chile

Croatians from all over South America have converged on Chile for the 3rd meeting of the Croatian South American Diaspora.
Croatia’s Ambassador to Chile, Nives Malenica, and State Secretary from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zdravko Bušić, opened the 3rd Meeting of Croatian South American Diaspora in Santiago, Chile before folklore groups entertained the crowd.
This is the largest annual meeting of the Croatian diaspora in South America, with delegations from 7 countries and a delegation from Croatia in attendance.
The 3-day meeting, which was held from 27-29 October, is aimed at bringing the diaspora in South America closer to Croatia, featured a number of expert panels, including discussions on the topics such as investment models in Croatia, improving trade relations, preserving Croatian identity, and establishing a virtual museum of the Croatian diaspora in South America.
Croatians in South America, where there are estimated to be over half a million, are pushing to have a representative also in the Croatian Parliament.
The two previous Croatian South American Diaspora meetings were held in Peru and Bolivia.
