There are just over three months until Croatia’s biggest motorcycle spectacle, the FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Croatia, which returns for the fifth time.
The best speedway drivers will reunite on April 29, 2023, at the first race of the championship at Milenium Stadium in Croatia in the fight for the world championship title. The championship ends in Torun, Poland, in October.
“The Speedway spectacle we witnessed last year will be repeated in an even better version at the end of April this year when we organize the Grand Prix for the fifth time in the history of the Milenium Stadium. Every time, we are surprised at how good a speedway event can be and what are the limits of the fighting spirit of these drivers, who give the last atom of strength for every point won. We are also pushing the boundaries of adventure tourism by providing an exclusive experience for an audience that travels from all over the world to Croatia, to Međimurje, on that particular Saturday night. The all-day offer of animations for children, boxes for drivers, the FAN Zone, and catering consists of over 50 tons of technological equipment in 14 trucks, and we will install 129 m2 of LED screens and more than 40 cameras.
The results of the television coverage of the Grand Prix race held in 2022 are incredible, with the race shown in 56 countries over 740 hours. The total viewership of television viewers is 9,951,000, which is the media value of the event in the amount of €3,895,000 (according to research by Zagreb Media Office d.o.o. and Munich Media Office). The promotion of the race on Discovery channels reached 17.5 million users in about 300 spots and commercials. We are the largest event organizer in northern Croatia and probably beyond, and the promotion we do for Croatia and speedway is a great motivation to be even better,” said Darija Pavlic, race director and member of the FIM commission for track racing.
Celebrating 100 years of sport in 2023
The return of the Australian fans is a symbolic moment for the entire tour this year because this year speedway celebrates 100 years of the sport, which had its first race at the Maitland Showgrounds stadium in the Australian state of New South Wales on December 15, 1923.
The organizers believe that this race will surpass last year’s, because the entire season in Croatia was known as the best race of the world GP championship, with a fantastic atmosphere and an exceptionally prepared track where the drivers drove the best speedway race of the season. At Milenium Stadium, there were 40 overtakes in the drive after the first corner (the first corner is not counted because there the drivers fight for positions for the next 4 laps), while in the other races there were 6 (Prague), 17 (Teterow), 7 (Cardiff ), 14 (Vojens).
In the coming months, organisers expect a lot of preparations and construction at the stadium, driver training, which normally starts at the end of February, and announcements for the biggest sports and tourism event in the north of Croatia—the FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Croatia.
