Brac Airport, located on the Dalmatian island of the same name, is set to close down. Financial losses in the last few years is forcing the majority owner of the airport, Zlatni rat, to shut down, says Croatian radiotelevision . Workers at the airport have blamed bad business decisions and also a lack of care from the owners as the catalyst for the closure of a key part of the island’s infrastructure.
“Since the new owners took over nobody is doing anything, marketing is zero, were not in any bulletin, it is like an airport does not exist, we don’t know what to do any more,” said worker Ivica Matulic.
The airport’s certificate for offering services has expired also and the 20 million euro facility has been sitting idle. Brac has been rated amongst the top 10 islands to live on and locals are bemused how the government even decided to give up its share in the airport of 36 percent recently.
