Young film enthusiasts, led by Bruno Mustić, are returning to Supetar on the Croatian island of Brač this year for the the ninth edition of the Brač Film Festival.
The Brač Film Festival is an exceptional island project that began, we could say, way back in 2015. Since then, this Festival of fiction films has been bringing together debutants and young filmmakers from Europe and Mediterranean countries.
This year, the Brač Film Festival will take place from August 9th to 12th in the picturesque town of Supetar on the island of Brač. The magical ambiance of Supetar provides an ideal blend of cinematic art with the stunning Mediterranean surroundings.
What to expect this year
The main festival program will showcase top-notch film titles that will satisfy even the most demanding audiences. The festival will kick off with the screening of “Hotel Pula,” directed by Andrej Korovljev, which premiered at the 70th Pula Film Festival. Additionally, the program includes Croatian premieres of films such as “Proslava” by director Siniša Cvetić and “Ovdje će proći put” by director Nina Ognjanović. Lastly, the audience can look forward to the popular box office hit “Indigo Kristal” directed by Luka Mihalović.
Supporting young filmmakers
A special emphasis is placed on the short program of the festival, which will present talented students from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, the Academy in Ljubljana, and Belgrade.
These young filmmakers will have the opportunity to attend masterclasses led by Sir Christopher Hampton, Graham Broadbent, and the most-watched Croatian director, Vinko Brešan. This way, the Brač Film Festival continues its mission of connecting young filmmakers with established film experts, with the aim of exchanging knowledge and experience.
Program for the youngest audience
This year, the children’s program of the festival will be scheduled for morning screenings at 11 o’clock and will take place at the Supetar Cinema. Children will have the chance to enjoy the latest foreign children’s films, and after the screenings, discussions with a moderator about the films will be held. The BFF continues its mission of nurturing creativity and cinematic understanding in children from a very young age.
World-renowned names from the film industry
Yet another confirmation of the significance of the Brač Film Festival is the announcement of the arrival of globally acclaimed filmmakers. Among the guests are Sir Christopher Hampton, one of the most esteemed screenwriters in the world, a two-time Oscar winner (known for “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Atonement,” and “The Father”), and the esteemed producer Graham Broadbent (known for “In Bruges,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri,” “Banshees of Inisherin,” and “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”), who also received two Oscar nominations this year. Together, their films have been nominated for a total of 40 Oscars in various categories, out of which they won 9.
The Brač Film Festival offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a top-notch film program, meet renowned filmmakers, and have an unforgettable experience on the beautiful island of Brač. Mark your calendars for August 9th to 12th for the ninth edition of the Brač Film Festival.
