Bureks with cherry & chocolate a hit in Croatia

ZAGREB, 27 September 2019 – Just over a week ago, leading bakery chain in Croatia, Mlinar, brought back their Burek with sour cherry filing, and it has proven to be a big hit already. 

“Burek with sour cherries is back. Irresistibly drawn pastry with delicious cherry filing is back again on Mlinar shelves. Welcome home,” said Mlinar’s announcement on Facebook, which attracted over 1.2k likes.

The bakery chain explained why they decided to bring it back. 

“Because that is what the customers wanted. In the last few months, in almost all shops, we had an increase in the number of questions from customers asking for the Burek with cherries,” Mlinar told Jutarnji list, before adding. 

“In fact, when we made the decision to withdraw it from the market a little over half a year ago, we were guided by the fact that at that moment we had two fruit flavoured bureks, apple and cherry, which competed with each other. But customers obviously never got over it.”

It is not the only unusual burek available at Mlinar. They also have a burek with chocolate. 

“The arrival of chocolate-filled burek initially caused disbelief among customers, and even our sales staff responded to the often comical customer queries about how is it possible to have a chocolate burek. Today, it’s a well-received product.

“Simply, our technologists were not afraid to suggest this kind of offer. They are constantly following the trends in the bakery industry and have noticed that they can always experiment with chocolate. Finally, the success of the chocolate burek has encouraged us in researching and planning new innovative products. There will be more,” Mlinar said.
