The diverse traditions of the different regions in Croatia can be found in the cuisine, costumes, customs and of course, how weddings are celebrated.
Whilst each region in Croatia has its own specific wedding traditions which date back hundreds of years, it is difficult to witness a true, traditional wedding these days without some of the modern elements which have crept in over the years.
A short film by Alen Kocić Koc gives an intriguing insight into how a traditional Croatian village wedding was celebrated a century ago.
“It is a film about wedding traditions and being happy and was filmed on the small village of Siče in Slavonia in eastern Croatia from the folklore society Radinje Siche, Slavonia. The film gives us an look into old Croatian, Slavonian wedding customs. Everything in film is authentic and follows the tradition of how weddings were held there a century ago,” Kocić Kos told us.
Titled ‘Traditional Wedding in Siče’, Kocic Kos says everything in the film looks how it once did back in the day.
“It is amazing how much has been preserved and how many costumes, songs and customs, the people of Siče have. With the Derjanović family, everything has been done in the house and yard as it used to be and it is valuable material for generations to come,” he said.
