Croatia’s number one tennis player Marin Čilić has breezed into the 4th round at Wimbledon, beating 6th seed Tomas Berdych in straight sets 7-6, 6-4, 7-6….
Čilić, who is the tournament’s 26th seed, took out the 3rd set tie-breaker at close to 10pm local time in fading light, and now sets up a 4th round encounter with France’s Jeremy Chardy. Čilić, who out aced Berdych 20 to 6, won over 80% of points on his first serve and was mentally strong throughout the match. Čilić says his new coach Goran Ivanišević can be thanked for that.
“That is one of the things which I have worked a lot on with Goran Ivanišević. I talked with him and he made me aware that I must be mentally strong and believe in my play because that is the only way to beat the best players and to raise the level of my game. Against Berdych I showed myself and others that I can play great tennis in three sets in an intensive match against a tricky opponent on grass. I have gone through to the second week, the matches now will be very hard, and especially physically draining, so I hope I am ready again,” said Čilić. (pic: Twitter)
