A 4-part module health education programme, including a module dealing with sex education, which was introduced by Croatia’s Ministry of Education and upset the Catholic church and a number of other groups has been abolished by the nation’s Constitutional Court – for now.
The court’s decision, based on contentious legal and constitutional issues, on Tuesday to abolish the sex education curriculum will take effect immediately until a further final decision is made later this year.
The sex education module in question, which educates students on all aspects of sexual health education including sexually transmitted diseases, reproductive health, sex/gender issues and masturbation, caused a stir in Croatia late last year when it was announced with the Catholic church saying that programmes according to their life values should be taught and not issues such as masturbation, pornography, homosexuality and gender ideology.
