Two years after it was announced that the largest shopping mall in the Dalmatian city of Split would be built, construction of the 177 million euros Mall of Split has started, reports business daily Poslovni dnevnik.
The Mall of Split, which took years to get off the ground after investors had problems with building permits, will cover a huge 181,000 square metres with over 61,000 square metres of rented floor space. The mall will have 220 shops, 11 movie theaters, 10 restaurants and entertainment places such as a casino and a ten-pin bowling centre. More than 2,000 people will be employed in the construction of the project, and 1,300 once the mall’s doors open. The Mall of Split shopping & entertainment center will be Croatia’s first “green“ retail mall after Mall of Split investors won the award “LEED Application In-Process” in the category “Green Development of the Year “at the SEE Real Estate Awards in Romania last year.
