Croatia has advanced to the second round of the FIVB Volleyball Women World Championships in Italy with a solid 3 points after upsetting Germany last night in a five-set thriller…
Croatia twice came back from 0-1, and 1-2 to level the match at 2-2 and take the match to a deciding fifth set, where they stepped it up a gear to eventually take the match 17-25, 25-23, 9-25, 25-21, 15-11.
“We had a lot of gaps and made a lot of mistakes, it was not a high quality match, but we are happy because it was an extremely important win,” said captain Maja Poljak.
Croatia’s top 3 players last night were Sanja Popović (18 points) (4 blocks), Poljak (16 points) (4 bloka) and Senna Ušić (16 points). Croatia now move to Trieste for the second round.
