Croatia announces flag bearers for Olympic Games in Tokyo

ZAGREB, 16 June 2021 – The Council of the Croatian Olympic Committee, chaired by president Zlatko Mateša, has named Croatia’s flag bearers for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo today.
Discus champion Sandra Perković and shooter Josip Glasnović will carry the Croatian flag at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Tokyo on 23 July.
The members of the Council of the Croatian Olympic Committee welcomed the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that, in accordance with the commitment to gender equality in sports, the flag bearers would be one female and one male athlete.
Sandra Perković is a two-time Olympic gold medalists, winning in 2012 and 2016. She is also a two-time World Champion and five-time European champion. She is the only individual who managed to win five gold medals at the European Athletics Championships in one event.
Shooter Josip Glasnović won the gold medal in trap at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He reached the trap final at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, where he finished 5th. He also won a gold medal in team trap along with his national team teammates, his brother Anton Glasnović and Giovanni Cernogoraz at the 2012 European Shotgun Championships.
The Croatian Olympic delegation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will total 120 members, including around 70 athletes. 50 athletes have already guaranteed their spot.
