ZAGREB, 30 January 2025 – Croatia has booked its place in the final of the 2025 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship after a dominant victory over reigning European champions France at a packed Zagreb Arena on Thursday night.

The atmosphere inside the sold-out arena was electric, with the passionate Croatian crowd driving their team to a memorable 31-28 win.

From the start, Croatia set the tempo, racing into an early lead and putting France on the back foot.

With an impenetrable defence and clinical finishing, they stunned the tournament favourites by opening up an early eight-goal advantage.

By halftime, Croatia led 18-11, leaving France with a mountain to climb.

France tried to fight back in the second half, and whilst they narrowed the gap to three goals with just over five minutes left and with a man extra, Croatia held firm and kept up the pressure.

Zvonimir Srna, nephew of former Croatian football captain Darijo Srna, was in inspired form, netting a string of superb goals.

Between the posts, Dominik Kuzmanović, one of the tournament’s standout performers, delivered another masterclass. His crucial saves kept France at bay and ensured Croatia stayed in control.

With the crowd behind them, Croatia never wavered and closed out the match for a historic win. They now advance to the final, where they will face either Denmark or Portugal.
