Croatia beats Omiš 5-0 as the club celebrates 100th birthday

OMIŠ, 31 May 2019 – The Croatian national team has defeated NK Omiš 5-0 on Friday in the Dalmatian city of Omiš.The match was played to celebrate the 100th anniversary of NK Omiš.
Croatia coach Zlatko Dalić said that the national team was delighted to be able to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the club which had given Croatia current international Ivan Perišić.
Perišić was given the captain’s armband in his hometown today and gave a speech to the crowd just before a local Omiš klapa group sung the Croatian national anthem.
It was Perišić who would open the scoring in just the 2nd minute when he tapped in a Luka Modrić cross. Josip Brekalo doubled the lead in the 12th minute before Modrić made it 3-0 just before halftime with a well taken goal.
Dalić gave all the players in his squad a run in the second half and it was substitute Bruno Petković who made it 4-0 in the 58th minute. Petković made it 5-0 ten minutes later and that is how the match ended.
Croatia now heads to Osijek for their EURO 2020 qualifier against Wales on 8 June. Dejan Lovren, who is involved in the Champion’s League final, and Mateo Kovačić were both missing today but will join up with the squad next week.
Ante Rebić and Ivan Rakitić have both been ruled out of the Wales match with injuries and Dalić confirmed after the match today that Nikola Vlašić, Marko Rog and Filip Bradarić will not make the trip to Osijek.
Croatia will face Tunisia in Varaždin in a friendly on 11 June.
