Croatia beats Serbia to reach World Championship semi-final

Croatia thrashes South Africa to reach last 16 of World Champs

The Croatian water polo team has advanced to the semi-final of the World Championships after beating Serbia 15-13 in the the quarterfinal on Tuesday. 

As it has been over the years, it was another close game between the rivals from the start. 

At the end of the first quarter scores were locked at 4-4, and the second quarter was just as tight with both teams trading goals and they would go in at the halftime break tied at 9-9. 

Croatia got its nose in front in a low-scoring third quarter and would lead 11-10 heading into the last.

Serbia equalised early in the final quarter, but Croatia would take the lead again and hang on in the final minutes to record another impressive victory and put themselves in a medal position at another big tournament. 

For Croatia, Loren Fatović was top scorer with 4 goals. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Marko Bijač was again in top form, making a number of crucial saves. 

Croatia will meet the winners of the France v Hungary quarterfinal next in the semifinal.
