Croatia books Davis Cup Finals place with win over Austria in Rijeka

Croatia has booked its place as one of 16 teams in the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals by Rakuten which will be played in September.
In its qualifying match, Croatia defeated Austria 3:1 after Borna Ćorić, beat Dominic Thiem 7:6(3), 6:2.
Earlier on Sunday, Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler beat Ivan Dodig and Nikola Mektic – 6:3, 7:6(11) to pull the result back to 2:1 after the Croatians lead 2:0 after the opening day on Saturday.
Ćorić got Croatia off to a great start when he beat Dennis Novak 6:3, 7:5 to make it 1-0.
Borna Gojo then made it 2:0 to the home side when he beat Thiem, also in straight sets 6:3, 7:6.

The wins mean that Croatia has sealed their spot in the group stages of the Davis Cup Finals for a fourth time.
Croatia, who have won the Davis Cup twice and played in four finals, finished 2022 as the number one ranked tennis team in the world.
Other teams who have already confirmed their place in the group stage include Canada, Australia, Spain, Italy, France, Finland, South Korea, Netherlands, the United States, Switzerland, Serbia and Sweden.
